FACTS AND FIGURES
La Gomera is the sixth largest of the Canary Islands. It is a mountainous island, and the inhabitants developed a whistling language as a means of communicating across the many deep ravines. The language is still taught in the schools today.
The island is also famous for being the last port of call of Christopher Columbus before he crossed the Atlantic in 1492. It was from La Gomera that he took cuttings of sugarcane which he introduced to the New World.
